Reimagining Lady Grover’s Hospital Fund
Whilst honouring legacy
Founded in India in 1911, Lady Grover’s Hospital Fund was founded by Lady Grover, a champion of military families and formidable figure in Edwardian society. She saw the often overlooked struggles of British Indian Army officers, who at that time often struggled to care for their dependents. The cost of medical and nursing care could be crippling, especially given the long distances from home and the limited resources. Boldly, Lady Grover answered this with a practical and enduring solution: a mutual fund to provide financial support for hospital and nursing expenses, which offered relief exactly where it was needed most.
Today, over a century later, her legacy remains remarkably relevant.
In 2025, the fund expanded legibility to all military ranks. It now proudly supports all members of the UK Armed Forces and their families, including both current and former service personnel. This goes a long way to fill the gaps between the NHS, private insurance and real life needs. As we find ourselves in an era of growing healthcare challenges with the NHS, the Fund remains as essential now as it ever was. The peace of mind and tangible support it offers is grounded in Lady Grover’s legacy and today offers true support for a modern UK.
We knew on being commissioned to rebrand the fund, this was so much more than a slight development. To retell a story over 100 years in the making was a challenged we felt honoured to be entrusted with.
Still at the heart of the story we see Lady Grover herself. And only one photograph of her survives. We saw an elegant woman, wearing a distinctive wide-brimmed Edwardian hat and her image became our inspiration.
Her profile now sits proud and centre as the new brandmark. We crafted a logo that merged her form with a medical cross, depicting the timeless symbology of care and assistance, which also keeping an evolutionary thread from the old logo.
The colour palette also draws from the fund’s story, with heritage hues and tones that now form a firm foundation for the brand and ensure a cohesive look and feel across all components, whether digital or in print.
Beyond the visuals, we developed a distinct tone of voice that honours the fund’s history, while speaking directly to today’s UK Armed forces families. With messaging and straplines carefully crafted to strike a balance between warmth, reassurance and purpose, we encapsulated the core promise: to be there when you need it most.
Lady Grover’s tone of voice now reads through every touchpoint and whilst she may have lived in Edwardian times, her spirit continues to guide the mission today, with a commitment to care that transcends the generations.
